All-Time Top XI Squad
Goalkeeper – Petr Cech
Cech has been Chelsea’s most successful goalkeeper in terms of titles and awards. He played 333 matches for the club over 10 seasons in the Premier League.
LB – Ashley Cole
For his position, England is yet to see a finer left-back than Ashley Cole, on and off the ball. Having joined from close rivals, Arsenal, he had 229 appearances over 8 seasons with the club.
CB – John Terry
Captain, leader, legend. Terry was one of the best center backs in the Premier League. He was with Chelsea for 19 seasons and has scored 41 goals in 492 appearances for the blues.
CB – Marcel Desailly
Before Terry came on the scene, it was Desailly and Leboeuf that controlled the Chelsea defense. He did win more with France and his other clubs but he is still hailed as one of the best defenders to have played for Chelsea.
DM – Claude Makelele
He gave a new definition to the term defensive midfielder (aka the ‘Makelele Role’). He played 144 games over 5 seasons for Chelsea. Kante seems like the only player that can displace Makelele and he’s on course to do so.
CM – Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard is the highest goal-scoring midfielder in the history of the Premier League. He has scored 147 goals in 429 games over 13 seasons, 211 goals in all competitions. Lampard has scored at least 10 goals a season in 10 seasons with 20 or more goals coming in 5 consecutive seasons.
CM – Peter Osgood
Also known as the King of Stamford Bridge, Osgood was the wizard of Os. He scored 103 goals in 279 games for Chelsea from 1964 to 1974.
Winger – Eden Hazard
The only one on the list currently at the club. Eden has been hailed as one of Chelsea’s greatest players ever. Only 26 years old, he has scored 58 goals in 182 games for the blues. He should win at least one Ballon d’Or in his career.
Winger – Gianfranco Zola
Zola is another dynamite winger who was voted as Chelsea’s greatest player ever (2003). In 7 seasons, he played 229 games scoring 59 goals. He had flair, skill and a knack for dribbling. Do look at the goals he has scored for Chelsea in his career.
Striker – Jimmy Greaves
In four seasons (1957-1961) Greaves scored 124 goals in 157 appearances for the club. Talk about scoring just for fun. Chelsea sold him (then) for some extra cash to A.C. Milan. His season best is 41 goals in 40 games in a single season.
Striker – Didier Drogba
The only player to score in 4 different FA Cup Finals. Didier has won everything there was to be won with Chelsea, scoring big game goals in important matches.
Notable mentions include Bobby Tambling, Ray Wilkins, John Hollins, Peter Bonetti, Pat Nevin, Juan Mata, etc.
