The golden boot award in La Liga is called Pichichi. It’s awarded by the Marca (Spanish newspaper) to the top-goalscorer in La Liga for every season. The current holder of the award is Lionel Messi with 37 goals in 34 games. He’s on course to win the award again this season.
Fact: Telmo Zarra won the Pichichi award a record 6 times. Alfredo Di Stefano and Hugo Sanchez have won the award 5 times each.
List Of Top Scorers In Spain
The list of top scorers in La Liga currently are:
- Lionel Messi (26 goals)
- Luis Suarez (22 goals)
- Cristiano Ronaldo (22 goals)
- Iago Aspas (19 goals)
- Antoine Griezmann (17 goals)
Two out of those top-3 could have been guessed right at the beginning of the season with quite a degree of certainty that they would make the Pichichi shortlist as well. That would be Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, in 2nd and 1st position respectively. With Barcelona winning the La Liga this season, it looks like Messi will end the season as the League’s top scorer.
