With Mo Salah in such superb form, fans have already started declaring him as the best African player to play in the PL. That being said, we need to look at the numbers and see for ourselves. Some of the best African footballers to play in the League in the last 27 years include:
- Didier Drogba
- Yaya Toure
- Michael Essien
- Mohamed Salah
- Riyad Mahrez
Drogba, the king of Stamford Bridge obviously tops that list with 4 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League title and several domestic titles to his name. He has also scored the most goals in finals of competitions becoming one of the most influential strikers for Chelsea in the last decade.
Yaya Toure comes in at number 2 after playing for the better half of a decade with Manchester City. He was Player of the club, League, won 2 Premier League titles and so much more. Michael Essien comes in 3rd, another Chelsea player and the only player that isn’t a striker on this list. He also won several trophies with Chelsea.
Number 4 on that list goes to Mo Salah, after the season he’s having and is on course to lift the Premier League golden boot award this season. If he continues the way he is, he should move up this list in the next couple of seasons. Mahrez also makes this list having helped the Foxes win a PL title along with some wonderful goals and assists.
