What’s happening to Arsenal FC?
Arsenal FC is in a desperate situation and is anxious for positive results. Nowadays, they pay more attention to the results of teams that fight for survival instead of looking at the top of the table. They are only four points above the relegation zone.
Arsenal got its eighth defeat on matchday 14 against Everton by 2:1. In their previous five matches, Arsenal only achieved 1 point playing a draw against Southampton. Besides, during that period, they lost to Everton, Burnley, Tottenham, and Wolves. The Gunners no longer look like themselves.
Before that, the last time Mikel Arteta led his team to victory in the league was against Manchester United at Old Trafford on the 1st of October. Arsenal is currently near the relegation zone.
This way, the team achieved the worst start in the Premier League season in the last 46 years. They are terrible. There is no creativity, the players do not work, and they do not help each other. There are no sparks between the players, and there is no will or desire to win.
This season, the only positive aspect for Arsenal in Europa League was that they finished in 1st place in the group stage. They will play against Benfica in the knockout stage. But, in all other competitions, they are doing terrible.
Arsenal even lost at home to Manchester City with 1:4 in the quarterfinals of the League Cup. It was the sixth defeat of the London club in the last 11 games in all competitions. The pressure is growing; the match against City in the League Cup only made the club situation worst.
Besides, there are conflicts in the locker room. In this sense, some players think that the coach should not have ruled out Mesut Ozil. Despite that, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta does not have to worry about his position because there has been a general mobilization at the club for fear of fighting for survival. That is why bringing a creative midfielder is a priority in the January transfer window for Arsenal.
Arsenal’s board is supporting Arteta and Guardiola, who said that it would be a mistake if Arteta were fired. However, many football experts, managers, footballers are against Arteta’s work. For example, Alan Shearer and Sam Allardyce said that Arsenal would likely be relegated to this form and style of playing. Even Ozil said that the team needs Arsen Wenger back.
There are even rumors that Italian manager Allegri will be appointed as the new manager. In addition, until recently, Thomas Tuchel, the PSG manager, is mentioned as a possible replacement for Arteta. Yet, these are all rumors without any real evidence, and Arteta, for now, is in charge.
Now follows perhaps the most challenging part of the season in the English Premier League. However, Arsenal will have the opportunity to cheer up their fans during the December holidays. To do so, they need to score more goals and win some matches.
The recent good result against Chelsea – a 3:1 victory in a Boxing Day Classic – gives fans, the board, and Arteta himself hope. The Spaniard coach recurred to their young players for this match, and they overcame expectations. We’ll see if it is the beginning of the Arsenal recovery.
It is not a season as Arsenal’s fans are used to or expected to be, but they show support at least through social media to their favorite team. This great support should motivate players to fight more.
